Middlesbrough to Compete in Division 2 Tournament in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

The Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) announced today that Middlesbrough Roller Derby qualified for the 2017 International WFTDA Division 1 Playoffs in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Aug. 18-20, as the 6 seed. The tournament seeding reflects the June 30 WFTDA rankings, which were based on sanctioned games played through to that date.

This is the first time that the Teesside team has made it through to this international tournament. This is a great achievement for the team in their tenth anniversary year.

Co-captain Ella Storey said “We have worked really hard to get to this point. The whole team has trained really hard, and we’re having an incredible year, currently sitting at the top of the British Championship table too!”

Co-Captain Terri Sudron agreed “When you look at the other teams that have made it through this year, we’re a little team from a little town. The fact that we have made it through is testament to the hard work of the team, the dedication of the coaches, and of course, the fact that ‘Boro lasses are made of tougher stuff.”

Marking its 12th year of pushing the sport’s athleticism and competition to new heights, the International WFTDA Playoffs and Championships bring together the most talented, highly trained skaters and teams from WFTDA member leagues. Whether participating on the track, cheering in the stands or watching online, WFTDA tournaments provide everyone who loves roller derby an opportunity to witness the most anticipated match-ups of the year.
